new painting – Blustery Day on Top of Tod

Hello!

Long time no post. I have been working on this large canvas for a long time – since the end of November to be exact. Well, to say “working on it” is a bit misleading. I have been dabbing a bit here and there. Taking my time. Engrossed in other stuff. Not always the most productive or meaningful of stuff, but stuff. The fact that I am posting this today is even surprising for me given how non-driven I have been. Yet, here it is and I like it.

This is a painting based on a hike that the family did one day last September to the summit of Tod Mountain. We have lived here going on seven years and that is the first time we had been up there. It is not that it is a terribly difficult hike or that it is terribly out of the way. We just kept putting it off in the casual way that people do when they take the place they live for granted. Of course, going up there made me wish that we had been sooner. I won’t describe what it is like up there as this painting, gently abstracted as it is, says it better. I will say this though – if you live nearby and have not been up there yet, you won’t regret the hike. Except your knees. They might regret it the next day.

Wishing you a wonderful summer.
